Stiles & Drewe’s GOLDILOCKS & THE THREE BEARS

A new Studio Cast Recording of the universally famous fairy tale.

Goldilocks And The Three Bears

is the second in a trilogy of family-friendly musicals from the pens of Olivier Award-winning musical theatre creatives, George Stiles and Anthony Drewe (‘Soho Cinders’, ‘Betty Blue Eyes’, ‘Mary Poppins’, ‘Honk!’).

Goldilocks And The Three Bears

is a short family-friendly musical which is the second to be completed in what Stiles and Drewe describe as a "trilogy of trios". The companion pieces are the previously released

The Three Little Pigs

(available from SimG Records) and

The Three Billy Goats Gruff
,

which will follow in 2016.

With a score filled with trade-mark Stiles and Drewe tuneful melodies and crisp, witty lyrics,

Goldilocks And The Three Bears

was commissioned by the Singapore Repertory Theatre’s Little Company and the original production was directed by Anthony Drewe. The show reminds children not to fiddle with the belongings of others as well as introducing the idea of looking after the environment around them.

The album consists of 13 tracks, with orchestrations by Ruth Ling, and performed by a stellar West End cast: Olivier winner

Leanne Jones

(Hairspray, Molly Wobbly)

as the porridge-perfectionist Mother Bear, Olivier winner

David Bedella

(The Producers, In The Heights)

and Olivier nominee

James Gillan

(Little Shop, Peter Pan)

as our Father and Baby Bears,

Amy Lennox

(Kinky Boots, Soho Cinders)

as the feisty Goldilocks and two-time Olivier nominee

Michael Xavier

(Assassins, The Pajama Game)

as Mr Locks, our lumberjack with a heart.

"The songs are all great. Stiles’ music is as melodious as anything else he has written and takes on several styles to ensure a rich and textured score … Drewe’s lyrics work well for the piece … Goldie’s ‘Just Because I’m a Girl’ is a great ‘I want’ song … ‘Itch and Scratch’ is a catchy delight that allows Drewe to have some fun with the lyric, and “Porridge” is bound to get the kids giggling … cast of five are all superb … Ruth Ling’s orchestrations are also all very well produced with a big emphasis on up-beat fun. In fact this really is an excellent showcase of the talents of everyone involved. Highly recommended for the under eight in your life."

The Public Reviews

"A lot of the music is heavily reliant on catchy piano melodies which alongside energised vocals is the perfect recipe. 'Porridge' is very playful and brilliantly led by Leanne Jones. Michael Xavier shines as the lumberjack in the super catchy 'Wood is Good' but my favourite musical number is definitely the sassy 'Just Because I'm A Girl' sung perfectly by Amy Lennox as Goldilocks. David Bedella’s smooth vocals as Father Bear are also stand-out in 'Who's Been'. SimG Records have yet again captured an accomplished production professionally and of top quality."

9/10 "I have been a fan of Stiles and Drewe for a long time … They have such a knack of writing songs that are memorable, that you can’t help humming them from the first time you hear them. This recording is no exception - all catchy, funny, and with some great performances. I particularly liked ‘ Just Because I’m A Girl’. I always look forward to SimG releases ... a great listen."

"I love it! … from the cast to the design on the CD booklet and cover is perfect! The orchestrations by Ruth Ling add so much to the atmosphere of the piece and so they mustn’t go unsung … this is the first recording and thank goodness it has been issued by the exemplary SimG Records. This album is a MUST for all musical theatre fans.."
